Flex - angle grinders, cutting systems and accessories
An angle grinder is a machine most often driven by an electric motor (gasoline engine, compressed air, and now to a large extent also by a battery), which turns a shaft on which we clamp various tools (most often cutting or grinding wheels and cylinders).
It is therefore used not only for cutting various materials, but also for sanding and polishing their surfaces, including cutting off and removing paint or surface treatment of wood.
The name "flexa", which became popular, originally came from the German company Ackerman & Schmitt. It was the first in the world to use the trade term Flex for its flexible neck grinder in the 1920s. This company launched the first high-speed angle grinder in 1954. In the 1990s, the company adopted the name FLEX after its best-selling product.

The most important thing is how the angle grinder will be used. If you are buying it just as a handyman for the garage or for small jobs around the house, it can be assumed that the biggest use of the machine will be for cutting. Then basic models with a motor power of up to 1000 W and a blade diameter of 115/125 mm are sufficient.
However, these grinders are also used by many professionals for their light weight, easy one-handed operation and dexterity where high cutting performance is not required.
However, in the case of grinding (or cutting thicker materials), more powerful angles are needed due to the high resistance of the grinding (cutting) wheel. Here we have to look for a power of over 1000 W, and we are still talking about flexes with a blade diameter of 125 mm.
For grinding with a blade wheel, a power of 1200 W - 1400 W is ideal. These grinders, even with such power, have a relatively slim body and fit well in the hand. We even have a special range of grinding machines with a control and a power of 1700 W for the surface treatment of stainless steels.
The Czech market is a bit specific for angle grinders with a wheel diameter of 150 mm. These are very popular in locksmith workshops and metalworking in general.
Angle grinders with a wheel diameter of 180/230 mm find application especially in the construction industry. They are mostly powerful two-handed machines with motors over 2100 W.
Again, a powerful engine equals high cutting performance.
