Product detailed description

Swedish linseed oil SELDER for stone

  • Absorbs deep into porous stone (ceramics, bricks, concrete, plaster)
  • Fast drying oil - 1 day drying at 20 °C and good ventilation
  • Resistant to grease, petroleum products, salts and household acids (e.g. vinegar, wine, lemon)
  • Does not have the problems of conventional linseed oils

SELDER linseed oil penetrates deep into the porous stone. Replaces treatment with silicates on unground concrete with a cementitious layer. It is also suitable in place of epoxy treatment of polished concrete.

Concrete and stone treated with linseed oil will have the same appearance as when wet. If you want to test how the oiled stone will look, wet it with water. For white ceramics, it is necessary to test the oil on a small invisible area, as it may get a yellowish tint.

How to use linseed oil on stone

  • First, clean any stains and dirt, as they would remain on the surface permanently after the oil treatment.
  • Floors in the home: Rub a generous amount of oil on the floor. Spread the oil from the places where it remains standing to the places that still absorb it. Keep adding oil until the entire floor is soaked. After 1-2 hours, wipe off any residual oil, otherwise it will form a sticky film. At 20 °C and good ventilation, the oil dries within 1 day. The next day, you can polish the surface with a small amount of oil and a sanding pad - choose the grit level (the finer the pad, the shinier the surface). Wipe any excess oil dry with a cotton cloth.
  • Concrete with a layer of cement: Treat in the same way as household floors, but do not polish.
  • Floors in public places exposed to pollution: Heat the oil to 130 ⁰C and spread it with a natural bristle brush. After 20-30 minutes, wipe off any residual oil, otherwise it will form a sticky film. At 20 °C and good ventilation, the oil dries within 1 day. You can polish the surface in the same way as the floors in your home.

Do not wash floors treated with linseed oil with an alkaline cleaner - it dissolves the oil. Use water, neutral or acid detergents for washing. Where the floor is subjected to heavy wear and tear, shiny streaks may develop over the years. The appearance of the floor can be easily unified again by buffing it with a sanding pad and a small amount of room temperature oil.

SELDER linseed oil does not contain any solvents, drying agents or other additives. It achieves its unique properties through a refining method that removes all the components that cause problems in conventional linseed oils for wood.

SELDER flaxseed oils bust myths about flaxseed oils and ferments

  • Short drying time: Regular oil takes a long time to dry and is recommended to be applied in thin layers. - SELDER has solved the problem by removing the antioxidants. SELDER linseed oils dry quickly (1 day at 20 °C), even without the addition of driers.
  • No permanent yellowing: Linseed oil contains beta-carotene, which causes painted wood to turn yellow over time. - SELDER has solved the problem of permanent yellowing by removing the beta-carotene. However, the oils are photochromic, i.e. they turn yellow in the dark and fade again in the light within a few hours.
  • No chalking of painta: Normal linseed oils tend to chalk and form white spots on the surface on contact with water. - SELDER has solved the problem by removing the saturated fatty acids (stearic and palmitic) and wax.
  • No fungicides: Linseed oil alone does not protect against rot, so it must contain fungicides - SELDER protects wood against rot naturally by forming a water-repellent film on the surface. In addition, nutrients for wood-destroying microorganisms (e.g. proteins and saturated fatty acids) have been removed from SELDER oils.
  • Solvent and dryer free: Conventional linseed oils contain solvents for better spreadability and driers for fast drying - SELDER produces pure linseed oil without additives. It undergoes a unique refining method and is then boiled in various ways to achieve the optimum viscosity for a variety of uses. The flax fermé is used for various coatings, from wood impregnation to corrosion protection of metals. See the complete SELDER oil range.
