Product detailed description

Swedish linseed oil SELDER basic

  • For the impregnation and protection of wood in the interior and exterior
  • Fast drying oil - 1 day drying at 20 °C and good ventilation
  • Hardens to a water-repellent film, increases wood strength
  • Protects against rot, resistant to grease, petroleum products, salts and household acids (e.g. vinegar, wine, lemon)
  • Does not have the problems of conventional linseed oils - does not yellow, does not chalk, dries quickly

SELDER Grundolja linseed oil (linseed ferment) serves as a protective and impregnating coating for wood in the interior and exterior. The oil hardens into a solid water-repellent film and beautifully enhances the wood grain. It offers universal protection for various types of wood for many years.

SELDER linseed oil strengthens wood, increases its dimensional stability and bending strength. It provides excellent protection against rot - tests at the Swedish Agricultural University in Simlångsdalen have shown that Grundolja protects wood stored in the soil against rot for at least 23 years.

The treated surface is also resistant to grease, petroleum products, salts and household acids (e.g. vinegar, wine, lemon). SELDER linseed oil penetrates deep into the surface and dries quickly in the air to form linoxin, a natural polymer with good adhesion. At 20 °C and good ventilation, the coating dries within one day.

SELDER Grundolja linseed oil contains no solvents, drying agents or other additives. It achieves its unique properties through a refining method that removes all the components that cause problems in conventional linseed oils for wood.

SELDER flaxseed oils bust myths about flaxseed oils and ferments

  • Short drying time: Regular oil takes a long time to dry and is recommended to be applied in thin layers. - SELDER has solved this problem by removing the antioxidants. SELDER linseed oils dry quickly (1 day at 20 °C), even without the addition of driers.
  • No permanent yellowing: Linseed oil contains beta-carotene, which causes painted wood to turn yellow over time. - SELDER has solved the problem of permanent yellowing by removing the beta-carotene. However, the oils are photochromic, i.e. they turn yellow in the dark and fade again in the light within a few hours.
  • No chalking of painta: Normal linseed oils tend to chalk and form white spots on the surface on contact with water. - SELDER has solved this problem by removing the saturated fatty acids (stearic and palmitic) and wax.
  • No fungicides: Linseed oil alone does not protect against rot, so it must contain fungicides - SELDER protects wood against rot naturally by forming a water-repellent film on the surface. In addition, nutrients for wood-destroying microorganisms (e.g. proteins and saturated fatty acids) have been removed from SELDER oils.
  • Solvent and dryer free: Conventional linseed oils contain solvents for better spreadability and driers for fast drying - SELDER produces pure linseed oil without additives. It undergoes a unique refining method and is then boiled in various ways to achieve the optimum viscosity for a variety of uses. The flax fermé is used for various coatings, from wood impregnation to corrosion protection of metals. See the complete SELDER oil range.

Methods of application of SELDER Grundolja linseed oil

  • Paint with oil at room temperature: Suitable for interior wood and as impregnation before painting with SELDER oil paints.
  • Coating with 130 °C oil: It provides protection against moisture, rot and increases the strength of the wood. Penetrates 1-3 mm deep, suitable for exteriors (doors, windows, pergolas, fences, raised beds).
  • Immersion of the wood in oil at a temperature of 130 °C: It is used for deep impregnation of wood. The oil penetrates to a depth of 5-6 cm on the cross-section of the wood.

Use SELDER Linolja Fernissa to polish the surface - depending on the coarseness of the polishing cloth, you will achieve different degrees of gloss (silky matt to high gloss).

No matter what your wood looks like now, SELDER linseed oil helps to restore its original colour, just rub a small amount of oil into it.

Beech and birch are difficult to achieve a glossy look, as these woods absorb a lot of oil and not evenly. It is therefore difficult to achieve a uniform result with the joints from these woods.
